Governors
An Introduction from Jean Watson – Chair of Governors.
On behalf of the Governing Body, I am pleased to welcome you to St John’s C of E (Voluntary Aided) Primary School.
The governors include some staff members, parents, and members of the local community. We all have different backgrounds and experience, but together we work to fulfil three main responsibilities: providing strategic direction; holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and overseeing the financial performance of the school ensuring its money is well spent.
The rules of governance of a Church Aided school are different from those of a maintained school in that governors have responsibility for the appointment of staff and for the Christian ethos of the school.
The Governors believe that every year of primary school is crucial and that every child within each class should be taught in a way which allows them to make at least good progress. We expect every child to be set appropriate and aspirational targets for their progress. We will ensure that these are rigorously monitored by the class teacher, the curriculum co-ordinator and the headteacher. To this end we ask that the results are passed on, in an anonymised format, to the governing body for further scrutiny.
At the same time, we want to ensure that the school provides an enjoyable, supportive and safe learning environment. We would like every child to leave St John’s School fully equipped to flourish in secondary school and later life. This is a good school as evidenced by our last Ofsted inspection and our aim is to build on this and drive forward further improvement.
We will provide information and communicate as appropriate with all stakeholders of the school. We are determined that the school continues to be a strong, stable, and inclusive community and reflects our core values of Love, Courage and Respect.
If you wish to discuss any matters relating to the governance of the school, then do not hesitate to contact me via the school office but if you have any questions regarding the day-to-day operational management of the school, then please contact the headteacher, Mrs Wilkinson.
