Visitors to St John's Primary School

Welcome to our school

We hope that your visit is a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

St John’s C of E Primary School recognises and promotes its responsibilities for Child Protection and Health and Safety.

Arrival on site

On arrival please report to the school office. Signs directing you to our office are around our school site.  You will need to sign in and will be given a visitors’ lanyard. You will be required to wear this at all times. When departing from the site you will need to sign out and return the lanyard.

Security

Please keep briefcases, laptops and bags etc with you at all times whilst in the building. Also keep personal belongings and paperwork safe.

Child Protection

At St John’s Primary School our children enjoy meeting new people, so we hope that you find you are made welcome by our pupils as well as our staff.

Our children are frequently reminded about personal safety and child protection issues so you may find that children will ask who you are! Please feel free to confirm that you are visiting our school and show them your visitors’ lanyard.

In accordance with current safeguarding guidelines, visitors who are not able to present proof of a valid DBS disclosure will be escorted at all times on their visit. We appreciate your understanding of this protocol.

Should you have a Child Protection concern, please ensure that this is reported to the main school office immediately so that they may inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL.)

Health and Safety

Fire Safety

On discovering a fire:

  • Sound the fire alarm by breaking the glass at the nearest break glass unit.
  • Evacuate the building from the nearest available exit and go to the muster point on the school playground.
  • Report to the duty officer (headteacher or admin staff) stating the type of fire and its location.

On hearing the alarm:

  • In the event of a fire alarm sounding

continuously at any time, please leave the building immediately using the nearest fire exit, clearly marked with a green and white sign.

  • Go to the muster point on the KS2    playground.
  • Do not return to the building unless you are instructed that you may do so.
Bomb warnings and threats
  • If you see a suspicious object, DO NOT TOUCH IT. Inform the school office immediately.

In the event of a decision to evacuate the building as a result of a bomb warning or other threat, the fire alarm will be sounded and the school will be evacuated using the fire procedure.

DO NOT TAKE RISKS

Disabled visitors

If you are disabled and/or feel that you may require assistance during an evacuation of the building, please advise reception staff on signing the visitors’ form so that arrangements can be made to assist you during the evacuation.

Confidentiality

You may well hear discussions about the progress of children or other issues which need to remain confidential in the school. Please respect this at all times. Thank you.

Smoking

St John’s Primary School operates a non-smoking policy (including electronic

cigarettes) for all areas of the grounds as well as the buildings.

First Aid

Should you have an accident or feel unwell during your visit, please report to the main school office who will enlist the help of a qualified first aider. All accidents or ‘near misses’ must be reported.
