What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium was introduced by the Department for Education in 2011 as additional funding in order to address the underlying inequalities for potentially vulnerable groups and individuals. This includes those eligible for free school meals, those who are Looked After Children (LAC) and those from services families. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of pupils and to ensure successful continuity of education for children of service families.

The School Aims and Values
Every school has a duty to ensure that every individual child is given the best possible chance of achieving their potential. As a result, we seek to meet the individual needs of every child, in order for them to develop fully. The ‘Pupil Premium’, along with all forms of school funding are carefully managed to ensure ‘best value’. This enables us to offer personalised support for children in a variety of ways.
P.E. and Sports Premium
Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
The Sports Premium is a government grant which is awarded to Primary Schools to improve the provision of PE and sport within schools, with schools being given freedom to choose how best to spend the money in order to do this. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
It is our aim for all pupils to leave St John's C of E Primary School with an understanding of how physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development.
St John's C of E Primary School has decided to spend the money awarded to develop the following areas:
- Improving the quality of teaching and learning in P.E and other relevant subject areas.
- Increasing participation in sporting activities outside of the core curriculum, during lunchtimes and after school.
- Improving pupils’ lifestyles and physical wellbeing.
Improving the quality of teaching and learning
The school will use the Sports Premium grant to raise the standard of teaching and learning in PE by purchasing sports equipment and resources and investing in relevant training programmes. P.E. Specialists (PITC) will then pass on their knowledge to other members of staff; a cost effective way of ensuring the overall standard of P.E across the school improves. In addition, external providers will be used to work with members of staff, increasing confidence in planning and delivering effective PE lesson.
Increasing participation in sporting activities outside of the core curriculum
The Sports Premium grant will support the funding of an increased range of after school clubs for all ages. This also includes the cost of equipment and resources for these extra-curricular activities. It will also fund the costs of participation in competitions, including the cost of transport.
Improving pupils’ lifestyles and physical wellbeing
As a result of increased sporting participation, St John's C of E Primary School pupils will have improved health and well being, whilst also benefiting from all the other positive values that sport promotes. In addition to encouraging increased physical activity among pupils, we will also ensure that we teach children about healthy lifestyles.
We are required to report, we do not have any staff members who earn over £100,000
